I purchased some red underbody neons for my 98 contour svt, and i was wondering where you other csvt neon-havers ran the wire for the neon in the back of the car. Any help here would be greatly appreciated, and possibly pics

Well first off dont connect it to the wiring harness, it may not be able to handle all that extra power. Instead toggle switch it.

There should be 4 lights in the set. If so then the rear light should connect to the lights on the right and left. The right or left will connect to the front (depends on where the transformer is). The other side of the front and the remaining side light will connect to the transformer. The whole thing should look like a loop. Starting at the tranformer down one side to the rear to the other side to the front then back to the transformer. Couple questions. What company and type of neons do you have?
In Florida and I would imagine Georgia the red neons are illegal aren't they? If they are I would hope that you don't get caught running them on the road. If you are not sure call the local sheriff's office. Hope that helps.

I have LiteGlow neons. In Georgia they are legal, but Florida they are not. And the way mine are set up, i have to run each neon's wire to the transformer under the hood. I have done the first 3, but i have to run the back neon wire from the back bumper to under the hood, and i was askin for some help on possible routes to get there.

I can help. I just installed the same setup. For the rear tube, I ran the wire up through a grommet in the bottom of the spare tire well. Use zip ties to secure the wire to any nearby protrusions that have holes in them, but don't make it too tight.

Take the grommet out and use a punch to cut a (very small) hole in the center of the grommet, put the grommet back in, and run the wire up through it.

Then, I ran the wire up the side of the well (use duct tape to secure it to the side) towards the drivers side of the car, and threaded it through the tiedowns for the bundle of cables coming out of the trim there on the left side of the trunk.

Then I dropped the seatbacks, and ran the wire down the side of the seat, and tucked it under the plastic door sill. You might have to remove some screws to loosen the trim pieces, but it won't be too difficult. I ran the wire under the trim all the way up to the driver's footwell.

If you follow the lower trim piece up to where it ends under the dash, you will find a large screw that you will have to fish the wire over to get it safely into the under-dash area.

Then, I ran the wire out to the engine bay through the same holes that I brought the switch wires through into the footwell.

Tell me if this makes sense or not, and if you need any more info. Sorry about not having pics, but a digital camera is under a radar detector on my list of priorities.

Peace

Jed

And if i may ask, where did you mount all the tubes? I debated for hours before i decided where to put mine.

i did think about running it inside, but i do have my subwoofer wires running through there as well and it might get cramped in the well. Also, i think i am running out of space to drill in the firewall. I mounted my side neons to my body kit rockers, and for the front on i put the first and last screws on the bottom of my grill fender with the middle one on the little plastic piece in the middle connecting it in place. And for the back one i used the spare tire well and put 3 screws through them. For my neons i have little plastic suspender/hook things which i mount and pop the neon into. It's like a closed circle with a little opening which you pop the neon into if you know what i mean. Is there any way to run the wire underneath the car to the engine?

You can pick any of the various brake lines or other tubes running the length of the car and use copious amounts of zip ties, but that leaves you with a long stretch of exposed wire; very vulnerable.

As for going through the fire wall, don't drill a new hole:
There are two grommets up at the top of the fire wall next to the cruise control box. Take the plastic covers off the windshield wiper linkage area, and there are two grommets, one into the engine bay, and one into the passenger compartment, directly across from one another.

Punch holes in the grommets, and run the wires through there. I mounted the junction box for my neons on the fire wall right next to that grommet. You can use one hole for the switch circuit wires and the rear tube wire.

You'll also have to punch holes in the fabric liners on both sides of the fire wall, but that's no big deal.

Peace

Jed

Oh yeah, I mounted the rear tube right above the wire mesh in the rear valence; putting the screws into that hard black plastic bumper support. The front tube is mounted to the plastic duct panel directly in front of the air dam.

Hey Jed man thanks for all of your help in the neon matter. I drilled another hole for my speaker wires not knowing of these two pre-existing firewall holes you are mentioning now. That means i should have plenty of room to fit my switch and/or my control unit box.
