Check out the lastest issue of Poptronics (January '02 I think) magazine. There's an article in there on how to build a fairly small MP3 deck that uses a harddrive for storage. The company that designed it is offering a parts kit that includes the PC boards and electronic parts for under $200. I think they used a 30Gb harddrive and stated it will hold something like 350 hours of music.
