Follow the money. That will get your answer.
Ford is following the baby boomers to retirement - as is everybody else. Retro will continue to be the money maker for the enthusiast segment as the boomers try to relive parts of their childhood and obtain modernized copies of the dream cars of their youth. GM has been a bit slower to catch on.
The 500 will be a transition car for the boomers as Ford helps them out of their SUVs & minivans, and into more comfortable/traditional sedans. The CVT tranny is something I'm intersted to try out. If Ford makes it heavy duty enough, it'll be a great success.
