Did you call the police dept to report it?
Did you ask them to check their tow logs to see if it has been towed somewhere or recovered by someone? - all tows must be reported within 1 hour)
Did you have financing on the car that could have led to a reposession?
Did the Police Dept. List it as stolen on the NCIC (they will know what it means - its National Crime Information Center)
Ask the police for the NIC number on the NCIC listing or make sure it is included on your report- (the NIC # is the tracking number within the NCIC which is the national crime computer - make sure you have it on the record incase problems arise also this will allow you to have any ageny instantly check to see if it has been recovered somewhere)
