I have in mind to install a 2 way component speaker system from Planet Audio, It goes down to 35 Hz. and has a soft doem tweeter (to which I am partial to). I think its a good match for the Planet Audio HTV572 Tube amps I have. I was wondering about how much trouble was installing a round driver, where plates are supposed to go.

Also, at that low a reach,,,I think a sub isnt necessary.

I doubt the 6.5" will have much output at 35Hz, but it may be enough for you. Only one way to find out.

I just cut some wood I had with a jig saw. Took about 30 minutes a side. No problem.

I would have some concerns about it being able to produce any kind of substantial bass at those freq as well. Cabin gain would help, but you won't get a whole lot of output under 50-60 hz. This may be enough for you, but I suspect it may still be lacking.

Well, I found a bargain, so I can change all 4 speakers and keep my JL Audios until I can afford the Lambda Acoustics.
The speakers I found will go down to 45 Hz, which is considerably lower than my current ones. Then I may trade my 2 JL Audios and install 1 Lambda acoustic. I think that is a good compromise..I think...
confused

Keep in mind that the Lambdas will go up substantially at the first of the year. They are also ceasing support for the DIY market at the end of January. If you want a Lambda get it now. smile

The install was a complete pain in the a$$! I'd rather cut my right arm off, rather than attempt that again smile J/K! There are several time saving steps that I refused to do, because I am very particular. 1)If you mount the crossover in the door you'll save yourself alot of grief by using the existing factory speaker wire. 2) Trying to angle mount the tweeter UNDER the door panel is a pain. (although it can be done). Just take your time and don't lose anything.

Dnewman,,,,Moment of truth,,although its hard to know without listening,,,do you think one 10" sub from Lambda would do a decent job? obviously that is compared to my dual 10"

I think that the superior low end grunt of the new speaks plus the lambda, should do a good job.

Will the nightmare ever end? Thats the problem when you are an audiophile at home, darn it,,you want it for the car... laugh

Absolutely.

I think it would be a nice combination, but I would suggest running a high pass on the front speakers at about 70 to 100 hz if your amp has a high pass crossover.

I feel your pain. The nightmare will never end...trust me. haha

My system consists of component 6-1/2" front door speakers, 5-1/4" rear door speakers & a single 10" subwoofer.

As previously stated, mounting component speakers in an oblong 6 x 8 opening is a bit more involved, but there are adapter plates available to make the job easier.

I'm sure some here will disagree with me, but personally I believe having more than one sub is really overkill for anything but a competition level system or unless you plan on annoying your neighbors by listening to Icy Hot Stuntaz wannabe music at volume level 11 all the time. A multiple sub set-up means more weight & less trunk space.

My single 10" Infinity Kappa Perfect provides more than enough "slam" if I really want to feel the bass, otherwise it normally just fills in the lower frequencies my other speakers are incapable of reproducing.

And I too can sympathize with the "nightmare" lament as these types of hobbies; hi-po cars, home & car audio just seem to possess a life of their own.
