My system consists of component 6-1/2" front door speakers, 5-1/4" rear door speakers & a single 10" subwoofer.
As previously stated, mounting component speakers in an oblong 6 x 8 opening is a bit more involved, but there are adapter plates available to make the job easier.
I'm sure some here will disagree with me, but personally I believe having more than one sub is really overkill for anything but a competition level system or unless you plan on annoying your neighbors by listening to Icy Hot Stuntaz wannabe music at volume level 11 all the time. A multiple sub set-up means more weight & less trunk space.
My single 10" Infinity Kappa Perfect provides more than enough "slam" if I really want to feel the bass, otherwise it normally just fills in the lower frequencies my other speakers are incapable of reproducing.
And I too can sympathize with the "nightmare" lament as these types of hobbies; hi-po cars, home & car audio just seem to possess a life of their own.
