The high pressure gas charge is independent of the valving. Who said anything about valves, anyway?

It is widely known that Bilsteins, especially, when hand compressed off the vehicle, will push the shaft back out to full extension. Low-pressure dampers will just leave the shaft wherever you put it. I don't know of any damper that "pulls it in."
