My problem was, other than it being -24c in my garage, that the fuel rail and injectors looked nothing like the picture in the UIM FAQ, or what is shown in the Haynes manual.

Both show a split rail with bolts on each injector; see crude depiction below:

But on mine the rails are tacked together with the injectors going to the bank on the opposite side of each tube of the rail; again crude picture below:

The injectors are top fed, but because they are connected in this "criss-cross" pattern, I cant see how it is possible to pull the full rail with the injectors connected, or even without them connected.

FYI: I don't have much experience with fuel injectors, so this may seem like a dumb question.

Can anybody enlighten me?

yup i can i beleive you have the return style fuel system and the one shown in the pictures is returnless to remove the injectors just unbolt the rail from the lim and then pull it off the injectors its a little tuff. another option to clean the lim is to disconnect the fuel rail from the connectors over to the drivers side of the engine bay you will need a special tool to do it. it is a 1/2 fuel line/ac line quick connect remover sold at autozone or advance. from personal experience disconnecting the fuel rail is a lot easier than removing the injectors
