little history, if you dont care skip down. hey, im new to the forums and was reccomended here by a friend. he is planning to turbo his 2000 cougar and told me the price on the kit. i tohght $4000 was outrageous for just the turbo kit with no internals or anything and decided to help him out. I have done several turbo projects in cluding a 1986 mustang, 1986 cougar and a 1971 pinto that i am currently working on.

how strong is the 2.5L block?
how strong are the stock rods, and crank?
i was thinking 8.5:1 FORGED pistons would be best and running somr ARP rod bolts at minimum.
also, does anyone make 8.5:1 forged pistons for a stock bore 2.5L?

next, i was thinking of a turbo thats basically a T03/T04E with a .46 trim T04E cold side and a .63 T03 hot side witha stage II wheel in it. theyre good for well over 350hp easy. next problem is manifolds, who makes manifolds and piping that have a T3 turbo flange on them? should i just use stock ones and connect them and add a T3 flange there?
where do most cougar owners mount turbos in their engine bay?
It will of course be intercooled.

thanks for the help and anyone thats ventured into turboing a 2.5Lplease ggive me any input and problems you have enouctered in your install.

Thanks

Well not to be the rain on your parade here, but the cost is actually $5000.00... That's from Streetflight... I don't personally have a turbo on my car, but can tell you that the kit comes with all the hardware you'll need, not including any internals for the motor itself... PM BeyondloadedSE for more advice, I believe he's running that same setup if not one that is very similar...

Yes, i am running 8.5:1 Ross Racing pistons, but theres one problem...they are for a 3.0L. Guess your out of luck there. However, Keyser who works with Street Flight got a group buy a couple months ago for some 9:1 pistons iirc. You can check Street Flights webpage or the stickied post at the top of the Forced Induction branch of what the standard Contour/Cougar kit includes. Personally, I think $5000 is about right especially for what the kit comes with and the custom manifolds, collector pipe, downpipe, and intercooler that are made.

If i remember correctly, I believe warmgoner said a guy in texas is running a 1200 hp 3.0L block with stock crank with the addition of custom rods and pistons. The block held but the crank finally twisted after that much hp. Personally, I think the pistons is the only components you should be worried about with just a mild setup. Apparently, some of the Ford ringlands have cracked from the cylinder pressure of about 6 psi or so.

I guess why not run the T-28 turbo that the Street Flight kit comes with. Its already been shown to make over 350 hp on a keysers stock 2.5L svt motor with the addition of a 3" catback. Makes full boost at 2800 rpm's too!

Bottom line, go with Street Flight.

the 2000s have the revised ringland, your engine should be able to do 10psi safely without any mods to it at all, given its tuned right!

Yeah I can still get forged pistons. They are from Diamond Racing and I can get any compression you want. I can also get standard, .010 - .040 oversized.

I've beat the living hell out of my 2000 block and she still goes good. I've got 27,000 turbo miles and 850ish dyno runs with boost. My best dyno graphs are on here somewhere you will have to search.

How can the T28 have over 350HP?.....the max is 325HP for those Turbo's. And I wouldnt suggest maxing out that turbo...especially if it has ceramic BB's.

292 whp with an 18% loss equals out to 356 crank hp. Even with keysers 275 whp thats still 335 hp.

I beleive Keyser had a dyno around here showing 320fwhp, on race gas. Correct me if I am wrong.

I don't disagree at all.

However the T28 when used with the Street Flight kit is making 270-295FWHP (330-360 crank) & nearly TQ to match (flatline 250-275 FWTQ)

Now how much better does that make their design work, engineering, and tuning look since you state the turbo can only support a max of 325HP...
