I've got a couple of 6-7 year old Kenwood decks that work fine and play 80-minute burned CDs fine. In fact I gave one to a friend of mine to replace the broken factory CD player in his Dodge Caravan. On one of them I had to replace the backlight bulbs in the faceplate, but that's what happens when an Ebay seller can't pack electronic equipment correctly These aren't those stupid flip-face decks. I hate those. I put a Kenwood KDC-MP222 in my Contour for Sirius. It's the only Sirius-ready head unit Kenwood sells that isn't a flip-face deck. As far as Clarion goes, is the Clarion Sirius tuner available anywhere? I couldn't find it, else I might have considered a Clarion deck instead...

I can't. They don't make a Sirius deck.

Forget Sirius or XM unless you spend a ton of time in the car. You are probably best to invest in an MP3 deck (just my opinion) I have a Kenwood MPV-619 and haven't regretted the purchase one bit.

Thats a good point.......unless you just want to spend the money or you are in the car a lot, I would recommend a player that is compatible with MP3 and WMA files....such as the Alpine CDA9870 which I just purchased and LOVE! I've always owned alpine and they have never failed but thats my 2cent!

I do spend alot of time in the car; and I really like hearing bands I have never heard of and it is very hard to hear new techno unless you have Europe connections

DOn't throw out any brand entirely. You'll hear "Panasonic sucks" and all that crap, but really, you have a warranty. If it breaks, get your money back for it and buy something else. If it doesn't break in the first 3 months, it probably won't break.
Myself, I've used Alpine HUs exclusively for the last 6 years. I recommend them, but really they are not the only HU I would recommend and since you specified Sirius, then Alpine is out. Kenwood makes very good units, and finally they dropped the retarded rocker switches that prevented me from buying thier head units. I am not a fan of Panasonic simply because thier HUs are way too flashy, and they aren't set up to my liking. Clarion makes very high quality eqipment as well, and they are very easy to use. Of the 3 I'd probably choose the Clarion.
My advice to you, which is the same advice I always give, would be to look at all the sirius equipped HUs and decide which one you think you can live with best. Ergonmics I find are much more important than people think. The fact is, in a given price range, most of the head units you look at will sound nearly identical, it's the features and setup that make them different.

FWIW, IIRC the biggest difference between Excelon/non-Excelon Kenwoods is the warranty and number of preamp outputs. I ended up with a KDC-MVP622 after doing some comparisons and finding that the tuner, power, etc. was the same as the lower-end Excelons.
