600 watts mono @ 4 ohms - what to do, so many choices!

My two ideas were one 12" Dayton DVC in a ported box or one 12" Blue print in a ported box.

One other idea I had was to build a isobaric box for the 2 IDQ 12's I have.

I don't care what kind, or how many drivers I use. I don't care what kind of box - I just need a really small enclosure 2 cuft max that will be high SPL/SQ.

Trust me all you would need is 1 kicker solo square in a sealed box with a good amp and it will pound better than the others you suggested.

Not a bad woofer for $100.00, Dual two ohm coils (so you can acheive 4 ohm mono and allow it to get 600 watts)

T/S Parameters (coil in Series):

Fs: 35.36 Hz
Qms: 5.6875
Vas:37.475 Liters
Cms: 135 um/N
Mms: 150 g
Rms:12.92 lb/s
Xmax: 17 mm
Sd: 442 sq. cm
Vd: 0.751 liters
Qes: 0.828
Re: 3.0625 ohms
Le: 2.6875 mH
Z: 4
BL: 11.1 Tm
Qts: 0.723
1-W spl 85.05
2.8-V spl 89.22

Power Handling is 500 watts rms per coil,

For $99 the 12" DVC is tough to beat. Knu's is very good as well, but the Fs is a little higher than what I like (my 8" has a lower Fs, Bill!). The Dayton is a little more efficient than Bill's driver. The Blueprint 1203 is nice too, but I don't think worth twice as much as a a Dayton.

Why did you want a ported enclosure? Unless you are competeing where you want the extra 3-4dB or you are working with underspec'd driver, I recommend a sealed box. They are smaller, cheaper, and easier to build.

You isobaric design sounds interesting as well. I think the only advantage to that design is that you cut the size of the enclosure down in half.

As for the Kicker, it would be enough, but I believe Dave ran the simulations on it and compared to a Shiva and some other lesser known drivers. It was unimpressive considering the price.

That is the best response I could come up with. Do tell, why the solobaric will "pound" better?

Bill's woofer is a good choice, but needs to go in a ported enclosure for the best sound. Since it doesn't matter what kind of box, that doesn't really matter.

Is this for home or car?

Finally pulled the trigger and bought a second car - 1999 Saab convertible. While I love the SPL/SQ of my current setup, I realized I have to work in the confines of a small trunk. I also wonder how it will sound with the top down (will I loose much volume?).

A ported box seams like the best way to maximize effieciency. Do you guys think a single Dayton w/ 600 watts can match the output of two IDQ's sharing 400 watts?

Nope, but the basket is made by the same manufacturer. His sub is made by TC Sounds. I don't know who the basket supplier is though.

Basket is russian made. This woofer does "pound" wink , in a ported enclosure though

Edit: I'll see if I can post a plot from Bass Box.
