The hose going into my PCV Valve, the one that dissapears behind the engine, has a trace amount of what looks like dirty oil. Is that normal? Thanks, John

Normal yes, beneficial no..
there are tons of theads on cleaning the whole UIM & LIM & PCV system.
If the tube was severly clogged then I'd worry. But if the inner tube has a surface coating of oily sludge you'll be okay. How old is your PCV valve anyway? Cleaned throttle body & EGR passages lately?

Thanks. I guess my PCV valve is old. I've had the car for two years and haven't changed it although I did give a good carburator spray cleaning a couple of weeks ago. I have done the throttle body, EGR passage and chemical UIM cleaning. I just wish the search engine was working so I could look into cleaning the entire PCV system. Where does that oil come from? Thanks, John

It's a crankcase breather hose going into the PCV valve.

Yes, and that elbow hose that the PCV fits into becomes very hard over time. The one on my car was so bad the PCV valve flopped in and out of it very easily. I just replace the entire tube assembly and now it is actually difficult to get the PCV valve into it.
Either replace it when you do an intake rebuild/cleaning or wrap a zip tie around it to maintain a good seal. Mine was so bad it caused a weird whistling sound under high manifold vacuum (open throttle, low rpm).

I know the v6 isn't the same, my I4 is under the ex manifold. It plugged into the oil seperator then held by rubber hose, then metal tubing. The hose was so old that it wouldn't pull back from the valve. I had to painstakingly cut it off and put a new one on. Well it didn't help that the metal tubing wouldn't budge either . Glad I'm not doing it for another 100K
