Now hold on, what is so bad about Taurus? Those are nice and roomy, and have lots of nice features, I would love a Taurus, but that goes out of my price range. Their older ones I dont care for. But I will say ford made a mistake by removing the Escort line, and the Contours....

The Taurus may seem nice and roomy, and all that; when you compare it to a Contour. However, when you compare it to V6 Camrys and Accords, the new Impala, and other vehicles, it doesn't seem as good as it looks when compared to a Contour. You see, not only is a Taurus not an overly reliable vehicle, but it's not the biggest in it's class, not the most powerful, and doesn't have the best fuel economy. It isn't the quietest or the best stopper from 70 mph. Not to mention it costs too much.
It also lacks the slickness and available ammenities that the other cars in it's class have. It has not been really redesigned since 96. The other cars in it's class are fairly new, thus they are more refined, they offer more features, and they have a better reputation. Maybe with the death of the Taurus, and the birth of the Futura, FORD will get it right for once, and build a car that not only competes with Camrys, Accords, and Impalas, but is better in some way than the competition.

The back end of the Cobalt almost looks like Chevy is "stealing" some style from the Cougar.

I dunno, Taurus sounded very damn quiet in Drivers Ed (Im so young...) and that was only a 2003. Felt reliable, and had all nice built in features such as How many miles you can go before the engine runs out of gas (Sure most have it nowadays) to me it felt nice and powerful. Brakes were alright too.

A Taurus may have seemed ok in driver's ed, heck a 1992 Grand Am SE seemed ok to me in driver's ed, but it was nothing compared to my Lebaron Convertible. My point is, when your young, and havent driven a lot of different vehicles, almost anything seems nice, you don't have much to compare a Taurus to. Trust me. You went from driving a newer Taurus in Driver's Ed, to an older contour. Of course a Taurus seems nice, it's a better model, and it's newer. If you went from the Taurus you drove in driver's Ed to say a new mustang convertible, or a 1997 lincoln Mark VII for instance, you'd not think so much of the Taurus. I didn't think so much of my lebaron convertible after I drove a new mustang convertible. I'm not dissing you for liking a Taurus, to each his own. However, you should see that you don't really have a lot to compare the Taurus to, and those of us who do, don't think so highly of it. When you've driven the competition, and other things, trust me, a Taurus won't seem so quiet, so powerful, or so quick to stop.

ROTFLMAO, that is great. "It feels like it will last..." I don't know how something can "feel reliable", but ok.

Here's another website with a different real angle. It's more swept than the Chevy site shows.
Linky II
But it does have Cougar tastes to it. But remember, it's on the same platform as the Ion, so I can't be a large as a Cougar. I wonder if it's Acura RSX sized....

When they had my Tour in the shop for a month doing the wiring harness recall I had a fully loaded Taurus loaner.
Loved it! Not the best, not the worst. Not the fastest, not the slowest Better interiors, but not the worst.
I felt it was a solid all around car.

Yeah, I can see it a little better with that pic and the back end doesn't look as "Cougarish" as I thought...a little, still, but maybe with some styling from the RSX. From the B-pillar back to the trunk lid. The front half still looks like a new Cavalier. I'm still not REALLY impressed with it overall. Maybe something a bit more "dramatic" throughout. Although I didn't see pics of the interior yet.
