I just read a blurb about this today in USA Today I think it was. Cobalt is based on the Opel Astra and will at the very least have the European suspension, so ride and handling should be pretty decent I'd think. Otherwise, I think this looks a tad better than the Cav does, though still a bit odd.

Then again, I am a ford person, so comparing cars, if it is not a ford, I probaly consider it garbage :P

Not to start a heated debate, but the Saturn L Series (as was the Catera) is based on an Opel.....and we all know how that turned out.

How is the L Series saturn have anything to do with the opel? care to explain this to me? I know the catera is part of opel? but saturn?

And who care's if its a GM, cavaliers are not that bad of a car. (I only say this because I own one, and yes the interior is cheap) ha ha ha and for this new cobalt, to me it looks suprisingly good, and ford has nothing to stack up with it. GM is racking 10 new cars within the next 20 months, ford only has what, the mustang, and futura. wow... they still make that damn crappy taurus that someone needs to kill. Ford is on the bottom of the list from the big 3 right now, and im sure chrysler, and GM is rackin the big bucks. all ford has is a bunch of ogor engineers who don't know how to listen to the people, espeically the younger generations... Just me .2 Cents.. and honestly I do like ford.. its just right now, there not doing so well. cept for the new mustang when it comes out.

The car is built on the Delta platform. Which Opel may use themselves, I don't know.
It shares it's architecture with the Saturn Ion (A car in need of a redesign in my opinion).
This car is supposed to be GM's premium small car at least in that size. It's designed to vie with Honda & Toyota. Considering that the current Cavalier is nowhere near Honda or Toyota or even Hyuandai in terms of refinement, powertrain finesse, styling, materials, etc.., I hope GM has learned some lessons and applied them to this car.
I will be in the market for a new car roughly about the time this car appears (Fall 2004 for the intro, SS probably next spring) so I'll pay close attention to it.
Considering that Ford is making a big mistake with their Focus (for the US market, Europe gets an all new design, while we get a "re-designed" Focus) which in most peoples opinion, on this site, is rather dull, the new Cobalt might just fare okay.
I can't wait to see one in person.
