The "umm I think we did in the previous posts" is all heresay, no proof at all. The three day cooling off period is not for retail sales of cars.

Quote: "This must be WRITTEN in the contract. If it isn't written in the contract, the three-day period doesn't start until you are given a notice in writing."

Another Quote: "And it (3 day cooling off) does not apply to sales of real estate, insurance, securities, or of automobiles and other vehicles sold at temporary locations if the seller has at least one permanent place of business."

I'm still surprised how little some "car experts" really know.

Other states may be different, but California has no "cooling off" period for auto sales. Once you drive it off the lot, it is yours. Driving the car off the lot is the consumating action. If it hasn't been driven off the lot, it can be deleted, even if you have signed everything.

You need to confirm what is legal in your state, but you may be an owner.

screw the dealer... money hungry punks... ask him if deal is finalized thru bank, if they say no, they say stop, i dont want this car i cant afford etc... if it has been finalized, and dealer dont want you to return the car, bypass dealer, call the bank\loan company and tell them you are over your head, you might beable to get them to reverse the loan or give you a diff interest etc... dealer wont work with you, because they will lose a deal etc...

Banks will be willing to help, they dont want you to defunct on the loan.. so they will help best they can..

He's right on. Every state is different, and since the sale was conducted on the seller's property there is no other "Cooling off" law available to you. Just give them a call (or some other dealer) and ask them about your state's laws.

Regardless what the law is.......logically........he has not given the dealership a check. They have his car.....but he has a new Mustang.

Hmm.......I wonder what the dealer wants.......a used Contour...or the new car he has????

Lucky they gave you your car back!

Always be careful with car buying. I leased a car on impulse in the past and regretted it for months.
