Yeah that happened to my Contour as well. You would only hear it if you hit a bump right? Happened in about May, and then a shop fixed it for free for me, and it hasnt came back.
The car is up on jack stands now and has been for a few days. I hope to drive it sometime on Monday. I hope moving those straps fixed the clunking sound. I can see why they did it for free. Once I saw the problem it only took a few seconds with a long screw driver to push back into place.
