Yea let me know.

Mine actually does it almost exclusively at idle or close to it, which made me of course think IAC. But replaced that and tried the fixes on here and didn't help. Plus it only happens when I turn the wheel either way. Does it for 1-5 seconds and then goes away.

Happens alot when I'm rolling out of a driveway and turn the wheel.

But yea let me know if this fixes your problem then I will definitely give that a try.

I've heard that Ford used to recommend adding friction modifier to power steering fluid to quiet the pump down.

I think I heard that from Big Jim.

That's interesting. I am adding the friction modifier to my tranny cocktail today and will have 1/2 a bottle left over. What could it hurt to use the last 2 oz. in the power
steering fluid? Otherwise the left over 2 oz. not used in the tranny will go to waist.

I wish the search was working!!

BTW I picked up the friction modifier and was told the part # changed. Bottle says XL-3/Ford internal Ref. # 135454 and parts guy says this replaced c8az-19b546-a. I also thought it cost $15.00 for some reason. I paid $3.60! Invoice says....XL-S ADD HYP LUB

99SVT,

Well the power steering flush seems to have fixed it! Like I said, the hooting comes and goes, but it has not made it since the flush. I will give it a week to see for sure, but I would say it is gone.

NOTE-on Power steering flush. There has been a lot on this subject and when the search is working, I have read most post's. One thing that seems to differ is the way to collect the PS fluid as it is pumped out of the smaller return line. I was able to unhook the return line and STUFF it down beside the firewall and almost to the ground. There is plenty of hose to do this and makes it SO easy. The hose went right into the drain pan and not one drop on the floor!

I would say go ahead and do it. Can't hurt and probable do for a change anyway. My Tour is older than yours and I wish I would have change it at 50K not 81K.
