For the price of one truck payment (maaaaybe 2 if you get suspension & paint), you would have a 1996 Tour that runs & drives like brand-freakin'-new. If the engine is running strong, there is no reason to think it won't continue to do that for a long time to come. My bigest worry would be rust.

Once the car is fixed, its not costing you anything to keep it ('cept insurance) & it would be a great backup vehicle for your family & friends, as well as a nice loaner for any folks that come to visit. You might even consider holding onto it for a while, donating it to a charity, or perhaps offering it to a relative with a teenager who's itchin' for a ride of their own.
