cthomp21, have you heard the audiobahn speakers? The only potential weakness I see with them is the cone area. If you are using a sub of some sort, they should be great, otherwise you are severely limiting the potential.
I believe that price is for a pair. Unless you are buying a midrange unit or a woofer, all prices are normally for a pair. I guess it would make sense to verify, but considering audiobahn tends to be a rather affordable brand, I cannot possibly imagine these being 200 per pair.
I've heard some of their components, which I believe used the same drivers/crossovers and/or materials. They sounded like the typical mid-level component set. Nothing spectacular but
I haven't heard these exact speakers. I believe they've just come out in the last few months. I'm pretty confident they'd sound good based on the specs, materials, and previous experience with similar speakers.
IMO, they're a very good deal (if it's $100/pair) for a set of drop-in plate components. They're very easy to install for the novice. They're very efficient at 94dB, so they should play near their full potential when powered by only an aftermarket head unit. The external crossover is also very nice with a switchable hi-pass setting for use with a sub.
I agree that they won't be incredible performers in the low bass regions. They should probably suffice for those who aren't looking for big bass hits, just nice clear sound over stock. Otherwise, add a sub and switch on the hi-pass crossover.
Will I be buying a pair? Probably not.
They are very tempting, but I'm thinking about replacing the Pioneer plate components in my Ranger with the Audiobahn 3-way component set (ABC6003 - $230). I don't see the Audiobahn plates being that much of an upgrade over the Pioneer plates.
Well, enough of my rambling...
