Well I think that leave you with a bad hard drive. It's a machine and as you know being a Ford owner, machines break. Still it would be fun to throw it out the window wouldn't it. Check here for hard drive deals. Or if your not ready to give up yet borrow a drive from someone, install it and see if that does the trick but it sounds like you've covered all the bases.

That sucks. Hey everyone, don't buy stuff from HP, it's crap. My old pionex hard drive is working and we bout this thing back when a 200mhz processor was fast. Can I swap the pionex's HD into the newer computer? I know it'll boot up windows 98, but that's alright. But I want XP, so when I get a new HD, how do I get XP onto since HP doesn't give you a XP disc, because HP SUCKS. Right now, it's at 32% of whatever it's doing. I'm so freakin angry rite now. ....................................

By IDE, do you mean EIDE? HP sucks so they didn't include a XP disc, they say that the hard drive should rarely have problems, so they figure they don't have to include a disc,, they forget that their company sucks and they should include a disc anyways..... I may be able to get a copy of XP, just gotta wait till school starts back up to talk to a friend. Anyone know if a, umm, well, ok say I get a copy of XP once I install it, I should be able to use microsoft update rite? Without giving any kind of info or anything.. This isn't a copied version of XP I'd be getting, it's just not off the shelf... Or is there any way just to put my files from current hard drive on to new one, that would be real good. Thanks.

The machine should have a sticker on it which is a valid license for the OEM Microsoft operating system installed. If you can't find an HP OEM disc, you may run into a snag using someone's retail disc with their product key. I work for HP's enterprise solutions group, and could probably get my hands on an XP Pro CD, but not Home.

So if I just got a home disc and used my key (if I could find it) then I should be ok? I think I may be able to get a copy of pro with a new key... though gotta check on that. I just wish it wasn't the hard drive going bad, but that does make sense. HP sucks.

LOL that's a good one! Hard drives go bad all the time and not including a full version of the OS makes them more money.

I still find it hard to believe it didn't come with a restore CD. The machine must have been a demo model and they forgot to repackage it. We just received a shipment of 135 desktops here, all pre-imaged with our corporate version, yet they still included the OEM restore and OS discs.
