Is the 3.4 L V8 Taurus Sho and the 2.5 L Svt piston size the same? I recently heard that they were? Any truth to that?

I don't have a clue. Don't think it's been brought up. I'd be very surprised if they were the same. I guess call the parts guy up to look at the part numbers. Guess they could be identical and still have diff. numbers still.

The bore and stroke between the 2.5L (170hp) V6 Contour and the 3.4L SHO motor are the same.

Gotya... So the Svt would still be the same then. For some reason I thought it was 3.8 L not 3.4 L. Oh well.

piston size isn't the same though. the meaning of 2.5, 2.0, 3.8, or 3.4 (just throwing out numbers) isn't the size of the total displacement of the engine or anything like that, it's the size of EACH individually cylinder. So unless I've been taught wrong all this time, there is no way a 3.4 liter piston fit into a 2.5 cylinder.
But to tell you the truth... I can't remember how they get that number... I have ideas but I'm not so sure... can any clear things up for me?

well, the 95 v6 SE had a 2.5L engine, and contained 2540 CC of displacement.. so I would ASSUME that 2.5 refers to the ENTIRE engine... not a single cylinder. I mean.. 6 2.5L cylinders? that's be like a 15.2L engine..

the way I thought it was measured was if you take the cylinder and take it to BDC (bottom dead center) and fill it up with liquid then you would get say, 2.5 liters of fluid into one cylinder. Maybe I'm wrong though, it wouldn't be the first time. I have a manual at home that has just about everything there is to know about the basics of every frickin engine in the world. So let me look at that when I get off work which will be.... 9-10 o'clock tomorrow morning.

From www.HowStuffWorks.com : Combustion chamber The combustion chamber is the area where compression and combustion take place. As the piston moves up and down, you can see that the size of the combustion chamber changes. It has some maximum volume as well as a minimum volume. The difference between the maximum and minimum is called the displacement and is measured in liters or CCs (Cubic Centimeters, where 1,000 cubic centimeters equals a liter). So if you have a 4-cylinder engine and each cylinder displaces half a liter, then the entire engine is a "2.0 liter engine."
