Sony C90 ES, IMO best price/performance ratio. If you want to beat its quality you have to spend quite a bit more. Nakamichi is a good buy as well, but not much functionality or looks And about the Brands thing....A brand is just a name. I'm sure you can pic a good CD player from each of those names! Choose the product which has everything you want in a CD player....Not because of its name! :p Alpines are nice but I wish they offered a SQ unit comparable to the C90 or Nak...and same with Kenwood. Sorry for ranting

I have an Alpine CDA-7977, and I love it. It's my second Alpine unit, and I think its both beautiful, and great for SQ. Here's a pic...

Gonna have to vote for Eclipse. Mine has been 100% trouble free. Not to mention the 3-5V preouts rock the house.....

Well I go for the Kenwood. I've had mine for nearly six years now. It's outlasted two cars and still going good. (Can't say that for the speakers though)

Thanks for the info. I looked at that unit, but right now I'm leaning towards the Alpine like Jeff has. I'm thinking about waiting until after CES 2002 to see what Alpine comes out with. BTW, is anybody going to CES 2002? Hopefully www.sounddomain.com will have a report on it (CES that is) in January. I've waited since summer and haven't bought anything yet...what's a few more months!

It's still an incredible deal at only $325 with all installation accessories included. The cheapest I've seen it listed elsewheres is $535 at thezeb or $425 at mmxpress. I'm waiting for the price of mp3 decks to come down. I'll hopefully pick up the Clarion ProAudio mp3 deck on closeout next year. After tossing a set of $400 composite skis on my Ski-Doo, my wife has become a little touchy about such purchases.

As far as a good head unit with many features, if you can get your hands on an Alpine CDA-7878, you can get the best of all worlds. MP3 playback, 4v preouts, digital time correction, built in 7 band parametric eq, all sorts of goodies. The Clarion H/U mentioned earlier will be damn near impossible to get a hold of because they had the first batch made and they severely under-estimated the cost of production, so they decided that they can't stay competitive in the market of MP3 playback units. If you like them, get them now if anyone like Crutchfield or a local car audio shop has any left. Personally. I ran the Nak cd40z for a while and switched to the Clarion dxz715 about a month ago. My Alpine 7878 is on order! Support the local car audio shop in your area!
Mushu's pretty cool too!
