My Underhood wiring harnesses is cracking! Has anyone here had this fixed under the recall? I have had NO problems with the wiring but they(mostly the outside covers)will crumble apart if I move them around!

i got a 96 Cont. V-6 engine, automatic, loaded.. about one year ago the wiring for the a/c high cut off valve was coming of and by the two wires loosing the insulation they shorted out and the high pressure in the a/c unit did not cut off like it was suppose to.. the pressure got so high that it blew the charge out of the high side service valve... i bought two cans of R-134 and a new service valve for about $20 at the ford dealership...and recharged the a/c and it lasted for now about one year.. the wiring that had the insulation missing.. i went to Ace Hardware store and bought a can of Liquid Tape.. small can of rubber based stuff that you brush on and it insulates... i would really think twice before i take the car to the dealership... they, the shops dont make much off of this 12 hour recall warranty??? and they only get paid for 4 hrs.. think about it and figure out what else they gonna mess up when changing all the wires.. i just hope mine last and if not i have about 3/4 of a can of liquid tape left(only cost about $3.00 a can).....

There have been a lot of discussions about this in the past. Suffice it to say that nearly everyone with a 95-96 has had the problem. A lot of people (including myself) have had the recall done. I had a lot of trouble after the recall was completed, and had to take both cars back several times because of shoddy work. My mystique still isn't right, but I finally gave up on the dealer.

To ensure a quality repair job, people on http://www.flatratetech.com suggest giving the mechanic doing the job $100 ... I'd do it, at least the mechanic won't be all pissed off about getting the shaft from Ford.

They had mine for a month and I had to take it back twice. Runs fine since then.

If you don't get the wiring fixed, then one day two wires will contact and you'll have more than just a harness to worry about.

I'd take it to the dealer and get it looked at, and GET a loaner from them.
