Well, it has come time to replace the brakes on the SVT. So, I decided to go with the Baers. Here's my question. The 12'' kit and the 13'' kit are the same price... so... which one to get? The thing that sticks out about each kit... since both will brake the car infinitely better than stock is this:

13'' kit positives:
Killer looks under the 17'' FSVT wheels... filling in nearly the whole wheel.

Possibly even more resistance to fade.

12'' Kit positives:
Still look awesome ...
Probably a lot lighter than 13'' kit.

What is everyones opinion? I do like to track the car once a year or so and don't want to lose much speed due to some heavy rotors... are the 12's that much lighter? What would you all do?

TIA!

The 13" kit will give you more available brake tq for a given pedal pressure. If you don't have fitment issues, i would recommend the 13" . . .

So, you don't think the added weight of the 13'' kit versus the 12'' kit will have much effect on performance?

if you can hold on a bit i think keyser is still doing a group buy for the 13" kit this january. at least i hope it is still going to happen.

Awesome! That would be perfect timing... you think the 13'' kit would be better as well?

i am no brake engineer but for everyday spirited driving and a few road course events i think that the 13" kit is more than enough.

if i were a serious track event racer i would get the willwood kit. the willwood is built more for the track being better components, lighter, etc. but it is a lot more expensive too.

if you do get the baer kit pass up on the cross drilling. the engineers will tell you that they are more for looks than anything else and might even break down pretty quick.

i will be getting the 13" baer kit as soon as i find out if the GB is going to come through.

Will either Baer kit fit under the FSVT wheels without spacers? I was under the impression the calipers were too wide. Though I couldn't find any previous posts to verify either way.

I would go with the 12.2" set from TCE myself.

Much better setup, lighter weight by a significant amount, and more than adequate braking force to over power the tires.

What use are huge brakes if the tires can not handle past a certain limit???
It's not like you will be doing 40 hot laps (I.E. fade) at your local road course 24/7. (now if you are then I am EXTREMELY jealous and get the 13's )

As for the "actual" question...

I personally would pick the 12" BAER over the 13" because of the weight savings vs the extra fade resistance during repetitive track braking.

Okay maybe I was answering a bit narrow minded on the difference in the braking force of larger diameter rotors.

The larger rotor would give you a greater threshold before you broke the traction of "said" tires. So therefore it would give better braking ability by extending the threshold of traction.

Now what I really mean is how much greater braking ability does this gained threshold offer verses the tire size's ability to hold it verses the subsequent unpsrung & rotational weight increase?

...and I'd still pick TCE's 12.2"

Well, as far as the tires are concerned... I run Azenis (225/45/17) at all times here in FL... and those tires have a ridiculous amount of stopping grip. With the intrax and bilsteins, the car has no brake dive, and with the amazing grip of the azenis... I cook the stock braking setup with ease. Right now I have the bendix titaniums... and they work quite well, but are not up to the task of the high speed stop-and-go/highway/track driving here. I wonder if baer would know what the weight difference is... i'll try giving them a call.
