Well how bout some lightweight 14"s or 13"s whatever is the smallest that will clear u'r brakes and the widest you can fit under the fenders without to much rubbing. 8" should fit,, maybe more with some work. I bet that would help.

Custom programmed chip, and make sure you run highest octane you can.

I've ran a 100 shot on mine with NX. Ran GREATTTT!!! for about 3 seconds then began stuttering and CEL came on. Checked spark plugs found the #6 plug melted. Rechecked gaps installed new plug and tried again. Same thing blew the porcelin apart. After some research I found that when using a fogger setup you generally can't run more than a 75 shot. Which is the highest recommended by NX. If you go with a direct port you should be able to run more.

Exactly!!! Thats what kept happening to Doug Lewis' SHO years ago. Check out SHOtimes for info. Since we (SHO/2.5l DURATEC) have similiar intakes, the same basics apply

However the catch 22 here is that "wider" tires will not fit.

245/45/16's (9.6" footprint) are the largest tire "to my knowledge" that have been fit in the front fenders.
Those required wheel spacers to clear the struts. (I dislike wheel spacers for they change suspension geometry and add undue stress to the wheel bearings)

225/50/16's (9" footprint) fit without the spacers. (barely)

What I am really talking about is tire diameter. As the tire diameter increases the final drive decreases and the amount of force required to rotate the tire from a stop increases.

All 3 play a part in slowing down your short times.

Also a wider tire "technically" will add more rolling resistance and drag which both with slow down your trap speed. However the added traction and contact patch is usually well worth it.

This is also why you Do Not lower your tire pressure. More rolling resistance and a smaller contact patch. Both very bad for trying to go faster and quicker.

I thought 235s fit without spacers. Didn't buckshot do it? And a few others? Or maybe he used spacers and I just forgot (most likely ). Well if it's just for the track, doing whatever you gotta do to get more traction seems worth it, if you got so much power that off the line traction is the main thing affecting your times.

1. Buckshot is the one running 245/45/16's

I have 225/50/16 KDW's (wider then a 225 should be?) and the clearance is miniscule. (I'm actually surprised they don't rub under hard cornering!)

2. A stock Duratec engine has more power then most street tires can hold. An SVT definitely. Throw some bolt ons on an SVT and it can over power drag radials. (or more likely the diff )

Traction really is the limiting area.

Now throw in a set of Stage 3 axles, some drag slicks, an LSD, & enough power (I.E. turbo) and you should see 12's. (or break something else )

Didn't buckshot at one time have 235s on a 6" wide wheel? .... I wish my engine could over power something.
