It may depend on the brand of tire and of course it definitely depends on the type of wheel. I have 215/45-17's on my focus SVT wheels. There is about .5" of clearance on either side right now. Oh, I have falken ziex 512's on them. They almost seem on the narrow side for the rim so I am moving up to 235/45-17's pretty soon. 20 more millimeters is about 3/4" and if you split that two ways, inside and outside of the rim then 1/2" on either side should still fit it. The added height will help me a bit too.

I have the zetec final drive.... to help with wheelspin... currently i have figured out how to control it through second gear and only squat them for a very short period, using peddal feathering, before i put it to the floor....
I have all the solid mounts, in place, and of course the suspension to help it, and am also looking at the torque straps... and yes i'll have some good tires, i'm not yet sure on which ones but i will get a good set for sure....
however i'm interested about this 100 shot melting spark plugs event. there is a guy on neco who ran 100 shot (and even a 150 at one point) on his ATX equipped 2.5L duratec... He had a standard single nozzle wet shot similar to the setup i have. Only difference is i beleive he had a Zex kit. any more info on this guy melting plugs and exactly what his setup was?
btw: "Big Ass Stereo" weighing in at over 300 lbs will definitely be left at home.... i would be a fool to not do that.

my bad the 150 shot guy is an MTX... however someone from NECO is running around with a 100 shot on his ATX and does it consistently.... heck many people have WITNESSED him doing it....
the guy who ran 150 did do so through a progressive controller also (i asked him the details about it)

Tom, you may have some work ahead of you as it sounds like you have about the same clearance I had. 235/40/17's may require clearancing the rear bumper mounting tabs (where it comes to a triangle point near the top of the wheel opening) and a roll of the fender lip. I had 1/4" rear strut clearance on my Superior Scoundrels after adding 235/40/17 Kumho 712's and had a pretty good "ROMP" on large bumps until after the metal trimming. Even after the changes, I had a little plastic rubbing (inner fender liner) until that was trimmed. Front had no issues.
Section width of a 245/50/16 and a 235/40/17 was 9.9" and 9.8" respectively, just FYI.

This is also why you Do Not lower your tire pressure. More rolling resistance and a smaller contact patch. Both very bad for trying to go faster and quicker.
This depends. You have to watch your contact patch just like in auto-x racing. 225/50/15 Bridgestone Potenza RE73 on stock 8 spoke SE alloys really liked 18 psi (cold). To the tune of 2.09 60 foot times with no spin or hop.

I have to agree with Brad here ... I ran a 15.306 with no wheel hop and great traction with a slightly modified Cougar (KKM, Borla, SHO-Shop Y, Pro-Flow MAF, Koni Struts, Eibach Springs). The car had full interior with a half tank of gas. Front struts where set on the middel setting and the rears where turned all the way up firm. Rear tire pressure was 40psi and fronts where 20psi.
