Is it possible to fit the Cougar's optional In dash CD/cassetts player into a 96 Mystique? I think it will fit, but what about the connections?
1996 Mystique GS V6 MTX - PIAA bulbs, SVT shift knob, Firestone Firehawk tires, EBC Greenstuff front pads, Amsoil oil filter, Centerforce Dual Friction clutch, SVT flywheel, Amsoil synthetic transmission fluid.

I don't think so. Don't Cougars have a double din sized HU? It surely won't fit physically. If it did fit, it would just be a matter of unplugging yours and plugging in the Cougar one.

It should fit physically if your Mystique is similar to my Contour. Do you have a little pocket below the radio? It may cause some custom fabricating but it could physically fit. As for will it wire up properly? I have no idea.

I have the pocket below the stock head unit, so it looks like the space is large enough. Cougar has a standard double din right? The major concer is if I can plug and play or if Ford(Mercury) changed the wiring harness!?!

Go you your local car audio shop. Have them look up the PN for the harness for your car and for the Cougar. $10 says it is the same.

I am like 99% sure the wiring will hook up. We tranferred the CD player out of a '99 SVT to a '94 Probe and it hooked up perfect. They are all allong the same line and for the wirng ford and mercury have no difference. The HU out of the cougar will even say ford on it somewhere.
