Last night I was in a parking lot waiting for my wife and BAM!! This black Infinity I30 reverseing hit my SVT. So I jump out of the car to find out it is someone I know. The bumper has a scratch on it but nothing major. What do I do? It's rarely noticeable but there is a scratch(small dent). So my dilma is whether or not to have him fix the bumper. His a really nice guy but my wife says a accident is a accident. I'm confused, I would hate for someone to rip me off for a barely noticable damage and I feel like if I have him fix the damage I would be ripping him off. I need some advice please!

How good of a friend is he is the important question. A real good friend would offer to get it fixed (mine would anyways). Though if he's a good friend with little money, then maybe settle on a percentage of what it would actually cost to get fixed. Depending on how small it is, it could cost just $100-$200 to get fixed.

It is just someone I know and I wouldn't actually call him a friend. Acquaintance, that's the word(I think). It's just the whole moral thing you know? I think I would still feel the same way even if it were to happen with a total stranger. Also the "what goes around comes around" thingy. I appreciate your help. Thanks.

You're not ripping him off if you ask him to fix something that he broke. I would think he would be ripping you off if he didn't offer to fix it.
For example a year or so ago, a friend of mine rear ended me driving like an idiot and not paying attention while there was snow on the ground.
His car was fine, but he punched a nice hole in the back of my car. I immediately called the police and had a police report made for fear that insurance wouldn't cover it if I didn't. The damages ended up being less than my deductable, so I "made" him pay for the whole thing which ended up being around $400.
I guess, my point is that he made a mistake and he needs to take responsibility for it however minor the damages.
don't drink and drive.

So did you go get a quote yet from a body repair shop? Until you do, you do not know what you're dealing with here. And is it him personally or his insurer you'll end up dealing with? What does he pay premiums for?
I can't help but comment on your wife's take on this. If you were run over in a crosswalk and left with broken bones, the insurer for the driver who hit you would LOVE 12 jurors saying "an accident is an accident" like that means you are left holding the bag, S.O.L.

Go get an estimate and get it fixed. You never know what the long-term effects are of "barely noticeable damage".

An aquintence(sp?)? And he drives an infinity? You'd best believe he'd be paying for it.

If the bumper is dented I would think the damage would be major. My Contour got rear ended and the bumper flexed back out so that no damage was noticeable. My trunk would not open and close easily. There was over $1000 in damage behind the bumper. I would not feel guilty about having them pay for repairs. It was careless of them to run into your car. Have they offered to pay for the damage?

Maybe I wasn't explaining the situation correctly. My wife said that an accident is an accident make him pay for the damages. She didn't mean it like an accident is an accident let's just let him go.
