I recently (1500 miles ago) changed my water pump as a part of preventative maintenance. I put on a pump with a cast iron impeller, used gasket sealent(on both sides) and reused all 8 bolts. Then I found out that 3 of the 8 bolts (the bolts that hold the pump to the head) are not supposed to be reused because the are "torque-to-yield" bolts. Do I have a problem here? Also, I didn't use a torque wrench when installing the new pump, just installed them to what I thought was reasonable. No leaks (yet).

Where did you read/see/hear this? The Ford service manual makes no mention of any TTY bolts on the water pump. In fact, it specifically mentions when TTY bolts are used on components, like on the crankshaft pulley.
FYI the torque to be used on all 8 bolts is 18Nm.

In Haynes manual, it suggests not reusing the bolts because it it torque-to-yield. I had questions about that myself, when I wanted to replace my waterpump. From the previous posts, I assume people had no problems reusing them.

I had no problems reusing mine. That was in Aug 2000.

Crap, my brother has my Haynes manual so I can't check it. Honestly, though, I'd trust my Ford manual from todras over the Haynes manual anyday. I like my Haynes manual, don't get me wrong, but I've heard of a few things that they got wrong.

I recall reading in the 1996 Ford service manual (I have it on CD) that the water pump housing to engine blcok bolts on the Duratec are TTY.

I got the "do not reuse bolts" info from Chiltons. I bought the manual after the pump replacement.

I don't see any mention of the water pump bolts being TTY in the Haynes manual 6k miles since I reused mine, no problems *knock on wood*.

The idea behind TTY is that the fastener is stretched to the elastic limit of the metal. (the elastic limit is the ammount something can be stretched and still return to its original dimensions when the force is removed) The problem with reusing TTY bolts is that although they return to their original dimensions when removed the metal is stressed and tightening them to TTY again will possibly result in distortion and/or weakening of the fastener.
For their purpose the waterpump bolts will liikely never have a problem if they are reused. But if you were to reuse a TTY bolt that is used for a high load application like a connecting rod cap, main bearing cap or cylinder head then you might have a problem.
