At 15 i bought the '88 ranger 4x4 5spd with the low gearset, and the 2.9 V6. Engine was great. Never gave me any problems... which is good considering it was showing 88K for the second time in it's life (those ford od's only had 5 digits) . She was black with chrome edging and grill and bumpers. Had the alloy rims, 33" Goodyear Wranglers ATs, a little bit of lift, dark tint, bedliner, toolbox, flowmaster with dual 24" long, 3" wide chrome tips. Had a habit of cracking the passenger side exaust manifold clean in two . Also dropped one of those tail pipes onto I-75... . Had the drive shaft rebuilt after it busted out one end... The tailgait got all rusted inside and quit opening...

She sat at a shop for an entire summer 'cause all that happened at the same time, and I was paying for it myself, no real help from the 'rents, so I bought the '94 eclipse 1.8. Another trooper of an engine. Always started, no matter what. Good paint, too... a lot of those first gens had those paint jobs that got all faded... Drove it an entire year from 85K to 100k on a failing clutch, replaced the clutch so i could sell it, right after i found the SVT in a Thrifty Nickel. Got some help on it from my mom, since i'm saving her an ass-load on college with my scholarship.

Wouldn't own anything else right now. Figure my next purchase will be a motorcycle; a cruiser of some type. Maybe the Rune.

I really miss that truck though.

Peace

Jed

I had the 1.8 inline four with a stick. It grinded into second gear at high rpms ( had to wait like a second before you shifted into second, i normally just skipped second and went to third) and had tons of body damage on the drivers side. Damn I loved that car though.

On a side note, I'm probably pulling the plug on my mystique. She's brain dead I think and I'm probably going to get an f-150 extended cab, four door, v-6 manual. Whaddya think?

honestly, whats the point in getting a truck like that if your going with the v6?

if you want a v6 extended cab, buy the ranger, the f-series are emant to be used as a real truck, and you cant haul as well with a v6

the f-150 with a v8 would be a sweet choice

if you dont really need a truck, you could always get a CSVT cheap!

OK, I'm OLD....first car was a 1962 Plymouth Valiant with a 170 c.i.d. slant 6 and a pushbutton (that's right, pushbutton) automatic. Got it in 1967 for $200. Finally tore up the tranny from revving it in neutral and pushing the button for 1st. Sounded like I ran over a poodle!

I'd post a picture, but I'm not sure that cameras were invented back then!
