I agree...tapping off of the head will give erratic readings. I get 100 psi at start-up then it drops to about 75 psi, once it is warmed up it reads between 20 & 25 psi at idle. While driving its around ir reads around 50 psi. If my oil gets a little low I don't notice it on the gauge I plan to move mine to the lower position in the Spring...didn't even think about the back side of the block That may be easier then the front for sure.
