Any external fuse or connection will not cause this. A power fuse will supply the WHOLE head unit with power. If the original sypmtoms are looked at closely, it is obvious to anyone with consumer electronics repair experience that the problem is in the FM receiver portion of the head unit.
Off to Best Buy, etc....
