What is the determining factor in how may O2 sensors the contour has???

1. Year/version of OBD system. The 95 has sensors only in front of the first cat converters(s). The 96-on uses a sensor in front of the cat to monitor the engine's mixture. There is a second sensor after the cat to monitor the effectiveness of the cat.

2. Number of cylinder banks. A Zetec has one bank, the V-6 has two. There is one cat built into the exhaust manifold for each bank.

Therefore:

95 only I-4 has one sensor
95 only V-6 has two sensors
96-on I-4 has two sensors
96-on V-6 has four sensors.

The last cat on the V-6 is not monitored in any way. I don't know if the I4 has a second cat, I've never looked at one.

Hope this clears up the continuous fog, misinformation, and confusion regarding this issue.
