Just ordered a new one for me from Bill. Like 42.00 or so. I can't wait for the sounds to be gone. Damn, when that think goes bad it sure does make a racket.

there is or was a problem with our 96 V-6 contour.. it was a fix for the power steering not working when hitting a puddle. the belt would slip on the pulleys and not power the powersteering pump... the fix was a splash guard on the bottom and a new pulley on the p/s pump and a new belt(different number than the original belt... the dealer put in all but a differnt numbered belt and one week later the belt would squeel.....brought the car back in and also a copy of the TSB(tech. service bulletin ) to show them what belt should have been used... the next day pickup the car with the correct belt and no problems since 1996........ well this belt finally had to be replaced and i dreaded trying to get a replacement. figured they would not have one with the same number(correct)... they only had a replacement, and i got it and put it on and it was an updated belt from the one on the TSB.. and no problems since changing it out a few months ago....when in the market for the new belt i went on many web sites for replacement belts and found that the 96 Ford contour V-6 had two belts listed in places like NAPA(national auto parts), Advanced auto parts, auto zone, etc.. and that their catalog(dont know which one)???? had the belts measurements(one about 1/8 in. shorter or longer????)...... so if you need a replacement belt then go to dealer and make sure they give you the correct belt for your car......

Originally posted by Bradness: There's nothing wrong with a "shiny" pulley. Your problem is with the press-in bearing. Ford wanted approx. $75 CDN for a complete assembly (the only way they sell it). I bought a new bearing for $6 and pressed it in myself. Your pulley should be shiny as the belt is constantly shining it up!
Where's the press-in bearing go?
