dnewma04, Yes, my son, you may indeed receive co-credit for trivial audio matters. It certainly appears as if all the specialty independent manufacturers are being gobbled up by the large, mainstream manufacturers. As a conservative capitalist, I must admit to some sense of this being a potential double-edge sword. On the one hand, it means the specialty companies can potentially receive more funding for development of their products as well as being able to better market them. On the other hand, this also means there is the potential for the specialty products to become diluted by corporate meddling, not to mention possible over-saturation of the market & the subsequent diminution of its reputation amongst loyal customers.

I agree with what you have said. Although, aside from the subura thing, it doesn't appear that Clarion has influenced their business practices. I couldn't find any mention of Clarion on their site. Just an interesting tidbit of info that makes me glad I bought the McIntosh amp. When I was in my car accident, I was unsure if the amp was damaged. I called the parts and service manager and he told me where to bring it to test. If there is any damage, they will send me an RMA and have it picked up at their expense, repaired and returned. I asked how much it would cost, and he said nothing. I told him that I had been making some adjustments on the amp before the accident and lost some screws that hold a glass panel down, so he sent me the replacements, no questions asked. Needless to say, I was delirious with the customer service provided.

Back on the topic of PPI Art series amps, I have a history question for ya. I just bought an A300 from a friend to drive a JL 12W4. After looking on ebay to check prices, I discovered there was an A300, then for the last year of the Art series, an A300.2. One auction says the A300.2 was somehow better, but didn't say how. I'm going to write him, but just curious if anyone here knows. Thanks for any help.

They are essentially the same amp in every respect except for a few minor power supply changes. One of the changes allowed them to be quickly turned off and on when using their noisegate (ACM-420). The noise gate turned the amps on and off quickly with the presence (or lack thereof) of an audio signal. There were also some minor power supply upgrades in the .2 series. The .2 series is bullet proof, the A300 was merely bullet resistant. Can you tell I owned a pair of those amps?

Good enough. Thanks. I'm having a hard time getting through the day thinking about hooking that thing up tonight! Just have to figure out where to mount it; I think it's too much larger than my RF 160a2 is to mount it where that one is leaving (left strut tower), but I'll have to see. I want to build a small rack on the back of the back seat for the two amps (Nak PA304 and the PPI) but won't have enough time tonight. Oh well, might end up with the good ole nylon zip straps or whatever you wanna call em! All the wiring is in place, so short of pulling the back seat to find a place to mount it (this is in a 94 Taurus SHO) I should have it hooked up in minutes. Randy - Clarion 9675z, Nak PA304, PPI A300, BA 6.5's in front, Clarion 5x7 plates in back, and a JL 12W4 - www.picturetrail.com/rasmith76 If anyone wants Clarion stuff, let me know; I might be able to get you a deal.

"Recoton" Funny! I have heard that name before. They also own Acoustic Research and NHT. I have an NHT subone and the AR Phantom series speakers in my living room. They are a huge company. I think they own some others too. Just an FYI Originally posted by ESC:
"The Aliante 12 is the second best subwoofer made by Phase Linear. Phase who? No I'm not talking about the Phase Linear brand that you can by at Circuit City or Best Buy. Although related they are two entirely different companies, but are owned and operated by Recoton International Holdings. This Phase Linear is a European division that had a vision of building high quality, high-end designs of speakers, subwoofers and amplifiers for the European market. They asked and were granted use of the venerable Phase Linear brand name with the intent of furthering the mark created by Bob Carver and others of the early Phase Linear brand of home audio devices from the 1970's into today's modern car audio industry."

Just an FYI
That is correct. They are enormous and have many holdings. Jensen, PL, NHT, AR, Advent, and Stinger are their most popular brands.

On the Clarion / McIntosh one, did you guys know that the Clarion APA4400G (4x100w) car amp had its internals entirely made by McIntosh? I had one in my previous car and absolutely regret selling the thing, a really musical amp, with lots of reserve power. Great SQ out of that, I miss it now... OK, that was the extent of my knowledge
