I'd be interested in one if the price is right. I use my sunroof a lot.

Glad to hear the number of positive responses. I really hope this works out. Just want to let you all know that I'm still waiting for a response from the shop. I don't expect to hear from the guy until early Jan. because of the holiday season. Nonetheless, I'll keep everyone informed.

By the way, would someone let me know the process/etiquette of group buys. Do I have to cough up the cash and buy the entire stock and distribute them to individuals in this forum? Or do I collect $$ and shipping info from everyone and forward the list and check to the shop and they do the distribution? Don't know what's usually done and what's consider the fairest and easiest. Please let me know. Thanks.

I just heard back from the moonroof company that looked into fabricating the gear and as expected, it's too expensive for them to do it. They specifically said "the female splines in this gear make it a difficult item to produce." The guy I worked with recommended us contact a plastic engineer/company to reproduce the part. Anyone has connections/network within that area?

Sorry to get everyone's hopes up. Mine was definitely crushed.

Just so you know, the time I looked into it tooling alone was in the $8,000 range making a unit run of 200 units necessary to get the price into a workable area. The problem is that these are a worm drive type gear and unless you're talking quantity of 1000 pieces or better, they're expensive to produce. Sorry I didn't see this sooner to save you some headache.
