Hi all. Just wondering how many members would be interested in purchasing replacement metal gears for their moonroof motor unit? As documented in the 'Modifications' section of this site, the moonroof drive gear is known to get worn out. I was not going to pay $300 for a brand new motor unit when I know I just need a replacement gear. As some of you have researched in the past, Ford doesn't just sell the gears nor does the manufacturer of the motor unit, Webasto.

Therefore, I asked a small shop in MO to look into fabricating the drive gear, or the entire set of gears. I'll be sending him my worn gear to determine the exact cost. I would like to know the number of people that would be interested in making this group purchase. I'm fairly new to the forum and don't know nearly as many people as some of you so I'm asking the veterans CEG'ers to reach out to all contour owners, and perhaps cougar owners (same motor right?), to see who would be interested. The gentleman I spoke to said we'll probably need around 50 buyers to make this worth his while but obviously, the more the cheaper, the better. With 50 buyers, he took a guess and said it may cost around $25 to fabricate just the drive gear.

Nothing is definite but I just want to know an initial number of interested buyers. So please let me know. I will post another message as soon as I hear more from the shop.

If you actually get this going for that price, you will be a hero and a legend. It has been tried before but the price was through the roof. I'm definitely in! I was going to look into this with a machine shop or something in my area too, or I was going to send a member here my motor for the same purpose but have low funds for shipping due to X-Mas. I'm definitely in and I'm sure 50 single pieces should not be a problem as some people buy 2 or 3 themselves. Let's get this going this time, Summer will be here sooner than we know it!

I'd be interested, mine broke during warranty, but that was 4 years ago, I'm figuring another crisis around the corner, so the gear set would be great!

I'm definitely interested, depending on final details, as I'm sure my gear is near death. Sure would beat an expensive motor replacement.

Minivan pays off in February...

Buckshot77 was already getting these made a while ago. You might want to check with him, I don't know if they ever got made or not.
