Even if it is. I can dunk a 10ft rim, but I CAN'T jump over someone while doing it even if it was 9 1/2 feet. Nor can I put my elbow in the rim, etc. His hops are impressive.

How much do you have to clear the rim by to be able to dunk? I can grab the rim @ 10' but do I have any chance of improving my jump enough to ever dunk?

Jump training can help but its strange. I have been playing volleyball for about 12 years now I can jump about 36-40" and touch 11'4".
But the strange thing is in high school we did jump training everyday and I was barely touching the rim. Soon as I played in college I magically started jumping and that was a summer of no exercises either. Nor do I do any jump training now, just regular workout to keep in shape. Some people say it is fast twitch muscles, your either born with it or not but I dunno, just for some reason I can jump really well and I am white too! 6'4" 220.

I could slam a basketball when I was young. As long as I could palm it. (those 3/4 sized balls with no problem ) Maybe still now , I guess I haven't tried in a long time. BTW - I'm only 5' 10"

I'm am only about 6'1" and since starting a jump workout along with lifting weights three times a week I have gained about 7" on my vertical leap in the last year or so. So I would say that ya you have a chance to dunk if you keep workin on it
