Jazzman, while I am working on some ideas, can you take some measurements of your rear deck? Tell me the depth at the edge and also let me know if there is anything obstructing access to the rear deck from underneath? I don't have a contour any longer so I can;t check on my own. Be exact as possible when describing what is there. A drawing would be even better.

Aaron, if you or anyone else has quick access to their car, or a good memory, let me know if you can help.

If you're talking about the underside, I believe it's 9" from front to back. It's 21" from side to side to the point where you'll hit the third brake light wiring. It's clear all the way to the trunk floor.

Thanks!

Jazzman, what about making a small enclosure to hold a down firing BP1001 in a sealed box that you could suspend from the rear deck. If chtomp21's dimensions turn out to be correct, it would only be about 6.5" from top to bottom. It probably would not cost much to build, even if you brought it to a cabinet shop to build it.

Hey Dave --

BP1001? You'll have to be a bit more specific on exactly what you're talking about.

Also, remember that as a Canuck I don't have access to all the same stuff you Yanks do. Shipping and currency conversion make things much more expensive.

Besides, I just spent a whole lotta money on a home theatre system (which kicks arse, so far!).

Maybe I'm just a knob and think that the plate on my ride isn't cut out.... I'm sure I could do what APT has done with his rear-deck.

Mind you, I might just be a knob anyway.

Thanks for all the advice guys! It's much appreciated.

I went to Aarons house last night and took a couple of quick measurements. I dont think there would be much of a problem suspending a downfiring 10 sub from the rear deck.

Tell me about the HT. What have you done there?

www.blueprintdrivers.com , click on drivers, 01 series, 1001.

I just ordered a 1201 for my father-in-law this week. I'll let everyone know how it sounds (in a HT environmet).

Dave'll help you out here. I'll let him explain.

Brian,

Here is what I was thinking you should do for an enclosure in your car.

The top picture is a side view as it would look from the passenger side of the vehicle. The right side would follow the angle formed by the rear seat. The bottom pic is what it would look like when looking from the rear of the vehicle.

The raised section on the top pic actually fits into the area where the factory hole is. The total depth of the enclosure is about 7.5 inches. But only 4 of those inches will be visible while standing up and looking into the trunk.

I nominate you both for the Super Cool Audio GooRoos of the year awards.

Thanks soooo much for the info and ideas. I will certainly consider them!

Brian

ps -- I'll tell you more about the audio stuff in another thread. Check the Off-Topic forum in a bit.

Hey dnewma04 you told me that a free air rear mounted 6.5 inch would give the best sound which is very much different from the enclosure mounted under the bottom of the rear deck mentioned here. Have you or anyone else actually done this kind of installation and what kind of sound results or is this all just talk and supposition?
