I don't think its that big of a deal, you would get used to it in no time--like driving a different car; assuming you even encounter that problem.

I can't really tell you for sure. It seems like more unneccesary work to me, but i suppose you could probably trace the wires that go to the fuel gauge off of the circuit board plastic thing on the back of the guages, then switch wires earlier in the connections. But truly, i'm not sure, personally i wouldn't bother messing with that...just change the stickers. Of course, do some testing before you chop away.

I switched out my SE Guages w/ Tach to the SVT Cluster with no problems. Plug & Play. By the way, my model is a 2000 Contour SE (V6 Auto).

Yeah, I get to bring something up from the dead. (but at least I SEARCHED)

I have an early 1998 v-6 Tour with tach (made in late 97) and I didn't know if I can get ANY year of SVT gauge cluster, or do I have to get a early cluster. Somewhere around here I read up that there was some difference between the 98 and 99+ SVT gauge clusters

Yes that is true. The 98.5-00 cluster is slightly different than a 98 SVT cluster.

Me and my friend tried swapping clusters when we installed our indiglo overlays and his 98.5 cluster would not work correctly in my car.

If I remember, the gas gauge did not work and tach did not work. Also the ABS light and e-brake light are in opposite spots on the clusters so they did not light up how they were supposed to light because the way the wires feed into the cluster.

Bottom line:

98 SVT cluster will only work with a 98.
98.5-00 SVT cluster will only work with a 98.5-00.
So what you should be looking for is a 98 SVT cluster for your Tour.

What year is this one, and is there a way to paint the needles red again, or are they available somewhere?

Those would be 98.5-00.

The easiest way to tell is the 98.5-00 does not have the word NORMAL in the center of the temp gauge.

98's say NORMAL in the center.

Painting the needles would require some kind of paint that allows light to pass through. I dont know of any myself but I'm sure it's probably out there.

I dont think you will be able to buy the needles anywhere without buying the cluster along with it. Unless someone sold just the red needles alone in the classifieds.

2 options, scrape the white paint off the back, and paint them what ever color you want, they may not glow that color but atleast during the day you can tell the diff between the needle and the gauge.....and 2ndly there's a site that sells a needle package for our cars......but i can think of it right now....try looking in the main site under links,or branches it tells you there

Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.
