I have a 96 Contour Sport with a V-6. I replaced the four oxygen sensors and cleaned the upper intake and the MAF sensor. Even ran sea foam through the intake to further clean/ Replaced the spark plugs and wires, and the air filter. Now it has throwed a cel light P0156. I took the oxygen sensor and made sure the pins were correct on it and plugged it back in and it ws out for a while and now it has throwed the same code again. I replaced the sensor again and it still came back on later. What the heck

DPFE sensor. Try that. My car was throwing bank 1 and 2 lean and it ended up being that sensor. I replaced both O2 before replacing the DPFE sensor and still go both codes. The DPFE sensor made my light go away. About 55 dollars from Bill J.

It controls the EGR valve.

Pop open the hood.

Stand adjacent the drivers side front fender. Locate the EGR valve at the top rear of the engine. BELOW the EGR valve, bolted to the side of the block, you will see a little box (old style aluminum, new style black plastic) with two hoses and an electrical connector going into it.

It is secured with two bolts, 10mm I think, and is easy to change, although a bit challenging for guys like me who have big hands because of the location. Kinda tight in there.

If you do it yourself, pay attention to which hose goes where. One hose inlet will be larger than the other, so maybe put a piece of tape on the hose that goes to the larger of the two inlets to mark it.

Installation is reverse of removal.

On a plate bolted to the rear of the back head.

Look down below the EGR valve.
