I had a problem similar, I thought my fuel pump was dead, does your CEL (Check Engine light) come on before you turn the key to the START position?
My contour PCM was freaking out in Jaunary... and the fuel pump is controlled partly by PCM. Played with the wiring harness by the PCM, contour runs great now!
