Hi,

My .02 worth. Sounds like it might be a fuel delivery problem to me. How long has it been since you changed your fuel filter? Possibly when the temperature goes below freezing, moisture which has condensed in the fuel line freezes and blocks it just enough to cause your "hard stumbles", then when it clears or whatever, it starts. Do you notice the hard stumbles after you've driven just a short way, shut it off for a bit then try to restart it? I assume that once it starts it runs fine? The times it doesn't start at all could be due to complete blockage of the fuel line somewhere. Then it won't start till the temp goes up enough to begin to thaw it. Just some ideas I had from personal experiences. Hope it helps.

Hey Mike,

Sorry for the delay. I finally checked my Everlast battery. The part number was 47-3. It has 735 CA and 590 CCA.

Hope this helps.

Just bought an exact fit one at K-Mart last month. It is a Champion with a 72 month warranty.
Was $45 on sale.
Will find out what model number and post tomorrow.

My method for avoiding the annoying white junk on battery terminals (have been doing this on '86 Mustang for years; terminals are original and still shiny). The corrosion won't occur if air can't reach the metal. After cleaning the terminals, coat them liberally with 85W-90 gear lube or any other heavy oil or grease; something that will stick around and coat the metal. Light oils or WD-40 don't hang around long enough. It helps to disassemble the terminal to make sure bolt threads are clean and oiled.

I haven't had to clean a battery terminal with baking soda in years; they stay clean.

I deal with people having this problem everyday...if your engine is turning over...it is not not your battery or started. It is either fuel/ignition/air related. Those are the 3 things you need. It is extremely hard to block off air...so I highly doubt it(although one time I found a big towel in an airbox). Mnay times it is faulty spark plugs/wires pull 'em out and check them. (Coudl be coil, but unlikely) also your fuel filter as mentioned above could be a culprit. About the cold..well cold weather put a huge strain on all of the vehicles sytems. You could also try runnnig a strong fuel injector cleaner. Good luck...though it is not a bad idea to replace the battery/cables b/c more than likely there is some corrosion that is straining the system as well.
