Just curiouss, with SVT taking a year off is there any chance that the Lightning will come back and be able to compete with the 500hp/525tq Ram? Seems the SRT-10 has come out swinging with a 6 speed manual, 22in tires, limited slip and of course the viper motor.

IMO, the 2004 Lightning already does compete with the SRT-10, for $12k less. The Lighting is supposed to return with similar 500/500 power numbers.

I thought I heard the new Lightning was going to have the GT40 motor in it? If that's true the Viper powered Ram is going to get owned.

That may or may not be the case.  A recent Motor Trend article had the "500 club" cars (Viper and GT) and the GT managed a 0.3 second advantage to 60. That evaporated by the end of the quarter mile. It depends, but if everything translates from the cars to the trucks, it will be just as close.

What are the perf numbers of the two stock? I'd assume that the 120hp deficit and an auto tranny would more than offset the couple hundred pounds weight advantage the SVT has!

the new generation lightning will have a 500hp supercharged engine and a manual tranny. we all know what kind of mod potential you have with factory forced induction

Possibly with the factor nitrous-esque system too! (the one where it dumps the supercooled air into the supercharger and supposedly adds up to 50hp in short bursts)

the SVT looks a hell of a lot better than the SRT anyways..

I've asked before, but can somebody show me where ford (or reliable source) said it's gonna have a manual tranny? All I've seen is that it's gonna have auto.
I sorta like the idea of having an all motor vehicle pushing more/same power as the competion... but all is good.
Who knows how much more the lightning is gonna cost with the new engine, this could all boil down to which truck you think looks better,, personally I like parts of both. I need to build vehicles,, I'd make them perfect...
