From the DMD install How-To:
WARNING: You don't want to turn the pulley in the counter-clockwise direction. According to the Haynes manual, you can bind up the timing chain. Also, you don't want to quickly turn the pulley in a clockwise direction either, since it is possible (although doubtful) to start the engine that way.
IIRC, the Haynes manual is a little more specific about what could happen.
Puttin' slack in (aka: binding) the timing chain = definate possibility of jumping a tooth on the chain.
This issue has been discussed in these forums in the past as well. Based on the lead post, this is my best guess as to what he's dealing with. Seems to me he's covered 'bout all the easy, cheap possibilities.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
