'Fraid not.
I'm not an expert in this area of the engine, but I think you'll have to get in under the front engine cover. Lots of work & a PITA to get all the periferals off. That's why the mechanic/dealer didn't want to take responsibility for the screw up I'm guessing.
Man, I hate to see people get hosed like that.
