its been awhile so i'll rehash the ugly story...back in june, my tour started having a metallic scraping sound on the pulley side of the engine and a knock in the #4cyl(?) (front bank, left cylinder)...upon further investigation i also found that my serp belt tensioner pulley was moving outward from under the belt...
i got rid of the knock in the cylinder by swapping plugs between two cylinders i bought new plugs and replaced my ford racing wires with cheapo's since ive read a couple places that people have had trouble with the fms wires...the scraping sound i found to be my ac pulley and not from the engine itself, thank goodness
anyway i took my car to a shop and had them install the dmd, my new belt and the tensioner pulley i bought from ford...when i went to pick the car up it was running horribly.....before i dropped it off it was running fine but had the issues mentioned above...i pulled codes i dont remember now and in response replaced the tp sensor (the one on the throttle body)...no improvement
me being an automotive ignoramus thought my engine was toast and bought another car which i've since gotten rid of so now its back to the contour
ford had my contour, but refused pretty much to do anything other than remove the front cover to the tune of 400-700 bucks, not including fixing what they would find...'they' wanted ot remove the cover after telling me that one bank is "way" off timing from the other side of the engine and the only way to fix was to open the engine up to the tune of anywhere from 400 to over 4000
on advice from this site i requested a compression check which the service guy told me they couldn't run because the engine wouldnt run...i know that wasn't true because even with the problems i was having the car started first time everytime, just didn't run very well...
ok, so now i have the car back, its down at moms house, i haven't seen it for months but my bro towed it home from ford for me...they did nothing to it far as i know, including not running any of the checks i requested
this is how the car behaves as of the last time i started/drove it...starts fine, idles very rough, no power especially on takeoff from a stop and doesn't pull very well anywhere in the powerband, although i was able to get it up to ~45mph
after thinking about it i figure that the dmd was installed wrong screwing up the engine
anyone have suggestions on what kind of tests to have run on the engine???...i dont have the money to replace the engine, or go 3.0 with the ridiculous price i was quoted by shoshop (4900+)
im gonna have a friend help me tow the car out to where i am so i can find a shop...first im gonna try to see if maybe the dmd was installed incorrectly and hope thats the only issue i have, just looking for other suggestions from the experts here
