Can anyone help me out, im stuck! I have a misfire on cyl #1 and 3, thats the codes it gives me. MY plugs are about 2 months old And the wires are about 6 months old, im using bosch platnuim 4 and ford racing 9mm wires. I checked the compression on cyl 1 and its 165, and cylinder 3 its 170, every other day the check engine light turns on. I check the codes and it verys from cyl 1 to 3. Its a 98 svt tour, 120,000 miles on it, anyone else had this problem? thanks!!!

well...your problem could be your plugs AND/OR your wires. These plugs and wires have both been proven to be non reliable more than once. Anything that arises suspicion is worth steering away from. Those are both bad choices in regards to problems in the past with other CEGers. Try the autolie double plats and magnecor or stock wires. Nobody has ever complained about either of these, to my knowledge.

Are the Champions you bought double platinums? If not, get ready to change your plugs AGAIN sometime soon. It's not a matter of what YOU like, it's a matter of what YOUR CAR likes.

Should I assume you got the Bosch+4s because you do not like Autolites, never mind your search results suggested otherwise?

Just to stand testiment to this statement above, when I first changed my plugs I used the Autolite single plats (AP764). These plugs lasted only about 10K and my misfire came back. Once removed, the top electrode was shot!

Since then, I have changed to the Autolite double plats (APP764). I currently have over 20K on this set and just pulled a few of them the other day to check the gap. They are still set at 52, where I set them when I installed them.

I don't think anyone could have said it better.

Try running Autolite or Motorcraft plugs.

Bosch plugs are terrible to begin with and especially so in our car.

Champions!!!

Hopefully you will learn eventually...

i got my car with 82,000 miles on it a year ago and now i have 121,000 miles on it, and when i got the car i put the bosch platnuim 4's and it has worked great, i removed them 6 months ago and got new platnuim 4's and it still worked great, so i havent hd any problems with them. So yesterday i bought champions platnuims, and its still misfiring last night when i was driving it and runing it hard. So its not the spark plugs, So tomorrow im getting new wires.

I've had some champion double plats in now for just over 5K and they seem to doing OK so far. I'll check them at about 15K and report on how they're holding up. My last misfiring mystery turned out be bad wires. (Junk at 2 weeks old )

This is kind of an offshoot from the topic, but are you supposed to gap platinum plugs? The guy at Autozone said platinum plugs should not be gapped because you can chip off the platinum plating and have misfiring after a short time? Does anyone have some information about this or know if he was right?

I had to gap mine, they were off by a lot when I bought them. No problems yet and I have never heard of that. 99% of the employees at Autozone like to think they know what they are talking about.
