I need a new battery as my huge amp has killed my stocker. I would like the yellow top so I could run my systems without starting my car. Any reason not to have the yellow as the only battery in the car? I.e. can it function or does it have enough CCA?

Well, both Optima batteries for cars have 800CCA, so that's way more than stock. IIRC, the Yellow Top has ~8hours reserve on it, so you can run the accesories without the motor for a good while. I've got a Red Top under my hood, for now anyway. Ideally, I will have a Red Top for the engine/starter, a Yellow Top for the stereo, and a cap for the sub amp at least.

Besides, it just looks better!!

I've already got a 1 farad cap for my amp...

So the only difference is price and yellow can run amp while car isn't running...

Did you get the reverse terminal red top, what model #?

Anyone know if the yellow top needs to be reverse terminal and model # if so?

Thx

I dont know if anyone else had problems with this but when I put covers over the terminals the left one put a small dent in my stock hood.

Not right off hand. It's actually the Orange Top. Same battery as the Red Top, just the posts are where they should be for our car. Search for Orange Top and see what you find.

my yellow top fits fine and its a great thing to have, idle drop is fixed on cold start and it dont sound as rough the same. i did found some ford mounting brackets for the optimas but the guy at auto zone said they are a [censored] to get in w/o removing alot of shizzle. carbon fiber hood closes fine. the only hard part was getting the wires together for the terms.

i have a yellowtop. wish i had developed my pics. i spent about 4 days(not 12 hour shifts) doing the engine audio work. i had to modify the stock box and figure a way to prevent the battery from sliding to the right during turns. i was getting a slight rub and got the smallest of dents in the hood. i had to mod the battery box even more to get the battery to slide to the back left even more and had to mod the battery bar holder to allow the neg wire to sit on it (needed to turn the knukonceptz terminal more to avoid touching the hoood)

i know i just made no sense. i'd prefer a redtop (for aesthetic reasons) they r the same size. yellowtop will work but its not gonna be a dropin. looking at mine it looks completely stock and clean looking w/ the pos and neg dist blocks mounted to the back of the box. and i was able to get my inline fuseholder within 18inches and very accessible to view the fuse.

doing this setup was a biatch and a half, but TOTALLY worth it.

if u look at erics pics above, i had to get my battery even more to the left and back. and if u put your hands on the terminals, turn them counterclockwise to about 10oclock and thats where mine sit. i also used the pos terminal to connect the 0 guage for the audio pos feed so its accessible too and not buried at the bottom of the dist block.
