APT, knowledgeable post though I will clarify a couple of issues. First the '72 truck reference was to the trailing arms (during a broadcast they'll sometimes call them "truck arms" "), not brakes.

It *is* impressive that NASCAR can keep steel brakes effective at places like Martinsville for 3 hours. Having been there twice, it's quite a sight. I will, however, disagree that this is more taxing than braking from 200 mph on the Mulsanne twice per lap for 24 hours.

NASCAR races are interesting, no doubt. But my statements here are solely a resonse to the asinine bunk from Kremit. For example,

NASCAR isn't my favorite form of racing (save for twice per year), but it beats figure skating.
